What Does H.E.A.R.T. Stand For?
At H.E.A.R.T. Rescue, we believe every kitten deserves a chance to survive, heal, and thrive.
H.E.A.R.T. Rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating orphaned neonatal kittens, medically fragile kittens, and special-needs kittens throughout Virginia's Blue Ridge region. We specialize in providing the intensive, around-the-clock care that the most vulnerable kittens require—from bottle feeding newborns every few hours to treating life-threatening illnesses and congenital conditions. We are completely foster based and do not have a brick-and-mortar location. We operate out of our own personal homes.
Our mission extends beyond rescue. We are committed to educating our community about responsible pet ownership, the importance of spaying and neutering, fostering, and kitten care. By partnering with local veterinarians, shelters, animal control agencies, and dedicated foster families, we work together to save lives while helping reduce feline overpopulation.
Every kitten that enters our rescue receives individualized medical care, proper nutrition, socialization, and endless compassion before being placed in a carefully screened forever home. Whether a kitten arrives as a one-day-old orphan, is recovering from severe illness, or has special medical needs, we are committed to giving each one the opportunity to live a healthy, happy life.
None of this is possible without the generosity of our volunteers, foster families, adopters, donors, and community partners. Together, we are building a future where fewer kittens suffer, more lives are saved, and every tiny heartbeat has the chance to become a lifelong companion.

H.E.A.R.T. Rescue is dedicated to saving the lives of abandoned, orphaned, medically fragile, special-needs, and at-risk neonates and kittens by providing compassionate, specialized, and lifesaving care. No matter how small, sick, or vulnerable, they deserve a chance to survive, heal, thrive, and find a loving furever home. Through specialized foster-based care, veterinary treatment, rehabilitation, socialization, adoption, community education, and compassionate support, we work to give vulnerable neonates and kittens the second chance they deserve. We are committed to responsible rescue, collaboration within our community and creating a future where every neonate and kitten has the opportunity to grow into a healthy, loved, and cherished companion.

At H.E.A.R.T. Rescue, our ultimate goal is to create a future where no vulnerable kitten is left without a chance. We envision a community where orphaned neonatal kittens, medically fragile kittens, and special-needs kittens have access to the specialized care they need to survive and thrive. Through rescue, education, collaboration, and advocacy, we strive to reduce preventable suffering, support responsible pet ownership, and build a stronger network of resources for cats and kittens in need. Our goal is not only to save kittens in crisis today, but to create lasting change for generations to come. By providing education on neonatal care, fostering, spaying and neutering, and responsible animal care, we hope to prevent future suffering while ensuring that every kitten has the opportunity to experience love, safety, and a forever home.
Our Promise to Our Rescues
Every kitten who enters H.E.A.R.T. Rescue is promised compassion, commitment, and a chance at life. We promise to advocate for the kittens who cannot advocate for themselves. We promise to provide individualized care based on each kitten’s unique needs, whether that means round-the-clock bottle feeding, lifesaving medical treatment, rehabilitation, socialization, or simply a safe place to heal. We promise that no kitten will be viewed as “too small,” “too sick,” or “too difficult.” We promise to celebrate every milestone—from the first successful feeding, the first purr, and the first steps, to the moment a kitten finds the loving family they were always meant to have. Most importantly, we promise that every kitten who comes to us will know kindness, comfort, and love. Their beginning may be difficult, but their story does not have to end there.
